Understanding Trauma and Becoming Trauma-Informed

This one-day, in-person training, sponsored by the Campaign to End Child Homelessness and the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness, is designed to support service providers in all roles (e.g., supervisors, case managers, advocates, etc.) to begin the process of integrating a trauma-informed approach. Participants will learn about:
The relationship between homelessness and trauma.
The mind/body response to stress and traumatic stress.
The short and long-term impact of trauma on children, families, individuals, and service providers.
What it means to provide "trauma-informed" care.
How to apply trauma knowledge to daily situations (e.g., building relationships, managing crises, supervising and supporting staff).
This training has been approved for 5.5 Continuing Education Credits from NASW-NM.

About the Trainer
Kathleen Guarino, LMHC, is the Director of Training at The National Center on Family Homelessness. She provides trainings on traumatic stress throughout the country and is an expert on the effects of violence and trauma in the lives of children and families.
About the Campaign
The Campaign to End Child Homelessness seeks to galvanize the public and political will necessary to end this crisis through increasing public awareness of the scope and impact of homelessness on children and families; informing state and local policies and plans to better address the needs of homeless children and families; and improving programs and services to meet the unique needs of homeless children and families. The Campaign is partnering with the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness to sponsor this free training.
